Leopoldskron

This is Leopoldskron, the place. Leopoldskronweiher is the lake/pond that is reflecting the house. In the background you can see the castle/fortress that is located in the main part of town. This incredible view is where I was trying to study yesterday. It is about 5 min from our house and I love just looking at it!

I am an official European, because I have a basket on my bicycle!

  2. Greetings from Colorado!

What a lovely spot and view -- you are living the stuff of dreams. Your wonderful photo and its imperial setting reminds me of a family story (which may now be more folklore than real -- but I still believe there is some truth in this tale).

I am reminded of a story of our family when they left Bohemia for the United States. Several traveled thru Berlin to view a capital city (they were ethnic Germans living in Austria-Hungary) -- as a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity on their way to America. When they arrived at the main train station in Berlin, they were not allowed off the train because they were too poorly dressed (as peasants traveling, they were wearing their very best, but it wasn't good enough). They were only allowed to view the city through the windows of their rail car since the train conductors were not allowed to let "poor people" off the train lest their presence sully the coifed image of imperial power. Of course, this disappointment and social slight only strengthened their resolve to "make it" in America! And ... they did!

Now, 102 years later, you are studying in Salzburg -- living the life your great-grandparents could have scarcely imagined. Not only are you having a wonderful time -- which you richly deserve -- but you are affirming the hopes and dreams of so many in our family. May you rest in the legacy that is not born in expectation or burden upon you -- rather -- may you rest in the deliberate legacy of knowing that you have the choices of royalty!

I remind you that none of us are self-made! We are the products of all who love us, support us and nurture us! And when I read your posts, your blog and your adventures -- I know that the world is a better place for having you in it!

We had our first snow of the season in Denver -- it melted on impact -- but it was sure pretty to see! Tomorrow, it shall warm to 25C -- so summer lingers for a little longer! Ben

PS. I shall be in Vienna next month -- can we meet?

  3. Thank you so much Ben! It means a lot to hear about the family and to think that because of them I am where I am. I try not to take a single day for granted while I'm here. There is so much to see and to learn.
When will you be in Vienna? I have the weekends off and a 2 week break next month. I can definitely make it to Vienna.
